Aesop's Fables or the Aesopica is a collection of fables credited to Aesop, a slave and storyteller believed to have lived in ancient Greece between 620 and 564 BCE. Of diverse origins, the stories associated with his name have descended to modern times through a number of sources and continue to be reinterpreted in different verbal registers and in popular as well as artistic media. The fables originally belonged to the oral tradition and were not collected for some three centuries after Aesop's death. By that time a variety of other stories, jokes and proverbs were being ascribed to him, although some of that material was from sources earlier than him or came from beyond the Greek cultural sphere. The process of inclusion has continued until the present, with some of the fables unrecorded before the later Middle Ages and others arriving from outside Europe. The process is continuous and new stories are still being added to the Aesop corpus, even when they are demonstrably more recent work and sometimes from known authors.
Aesop Fables Aesop Books
Aesop's Fables were written to convey a message. Sometimes they offer wisdom, and sometimes they poke fun at conventional wisdom. It illustrates a lot of the thinking and the old ways of doing things and dealing with the world going back into the Pre-Christian times when things were looked at quite differently than they are today. The book is fun to read because each little story only takes a few minutes to read and the plot changes so quickly from story to story that it is easy to simply relax and let the book carry you along without having to deal with any heavy plots or deep concentration. It is also very interesting to find out where so many of our old cliches and sayings originated from. Much of the material would be worth reading to children, and would be a great exercise to teach them to look for deep, and sometimes hidden, meaning. As an adult, I find the book to be both interesting and entertaining, so I give it five stars.

Aesop Fables Aesop Books Reviews
I got this for free so you can't beat that. However, the stories are very brief. They get straight to the point but there were a lot of stories. If you you want elaborate stories this is not recommended.
I was given COPY OF AESOPS FABLES AT THE AGE OF FIVE.
It Became one of my favourite books,My very favourite was the Fox and The Grapes.
Since that time I Lost my books/Library during Cyclone Tracy in Darwin.
I was very upset to be told that my collection was not worth anything.
However very slowly I have rebuilt my Library and was so very happy to obtain Aesops Fables via Still as great as ever . should be a part of all childrens Libraries.
I really can't remember how old I was when I read the fables but wanted to go down memory lane. It was an enjoyable read and I do recommend these stories and you be the judge.
a bit disappointed... no pictures.
Doesn't this publisher (so-called) have a proofreader? Looks like all they did was take a public domain hard copy and scan it, with no attempt to clean up the errors that the computer introduced.
When I was a child my father would read these fables to me. I felt closer to him and if I didn't understand ones meaning he would take time to explain it. After awhile I tired of it (just a boy-wanted to play) but it's seeds were left to germinate I now know. Here I am 40 years later and reading them again. This time with a bit more perception and more considered opinions of what is good and what is not. Most of these fables are pragmatic aphorisms but some are moral tales, values, and many are very insightful. Some are very obtuse that I just wouldn't get without an explanation. Some are very good ,others are very trite. There's plenty of meaning to go around. What amazes me is how Aesop is able to condense a significant thought or profound insight into one or two short paragraphs. That's skill and wisdom. Worth reading and keeping for reference.
One of the best books ever written. My 5th grade math teacher would start our class every morning with a story from this book and it's perfect for kids. I love this book and recommend it highly to the newer generation as it has the most adventurous stories especially when you have a theatrical person to read it to you. Thanks Mrs. Ruth Wallace, I will never forget how you made the class exciting with the entrance everyday.
